Chico Chapter Daughters regularly participate in Memorial Day and Veterans Day ceremonies in local communities in Butte County by placing beautiful, patriotic wreathes. We provide an information booth about DAR at the annual "4th of July in the Park" celebration at Bidwell Park. We promote Constitution Week in September, participate in "Wreaths Across America" with the Sons of the American Revolution, and we contribute to DAR Project Patriot every Christmas. In the recent past we have presented flags to youth and civic groups, including Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, veterans, the Chico and Paradise libraries, and area schools.
Chico Daughters contributed to the Veterans Memorial wall in the downtown City Plaza; we contributed to the preservation of the historic Bidwell Mansion; we have provided speakers on the DAR Museum collections; and we sponsor and participate in ongoing conservation projects and activities. We have made donations to preserve the national DAR headquarters, and to repair and maintain the California state DAR headquarters in Glendora. The Willows Chapter, before merging with the Chico Chapter, contributed to the preservation of the Bayliss Library, the only rural Carnegie Library in the United States; and also contributed bricks to the patio at the California state headquarters.
Chico Chapter Daughters annually honor the outstanding graduate of our local Naval Sea Cadets program. We co-sponsor the DAR American History Essay Contest in elementary and high schools throughout our district. We also collect labels to donate to DAR-sponsored schools through Labels for Education, and Boxtops 4 Education. During the annual "4th of July in the Park" celebration, Chico Daughters distribute free patriotic coloring/activity books to children.
Chico Chapter is actively involved in DAR's missions and goals, providing services to our local communities.
